Betty Armstrong is resistant to having Jake in her class because it will upset the balance and rhythm that has already been established in her classroom. This means that the team should prevent Jake from exhibiting negative behaviors. Mrs. Armstrong and the paraprofessional can create situations in which Jake receives positive attention rather than negative. He can be given responsibilities in the classroom that provide him with a sense of connection. They can also ignore those behaviors that are not conducive to learning. There should be a system in place for Jake to learn to monitor and regulate his behaviors. It is important that Jake learns to self-regulate and identify when he is not on track. This can be done by giving Jake a chip one side indicates that he needs assistance the other side indicates he is able to work independently. His teachers must provide him with clear and precise expectations while rewarding him for meeting those expectations. He should receive consequences for those behaviors that are not proper. There is no way that the teacher will be able to minimize all his problematic behaviors therefore, she must write goals that will address those major concerns.
