These points are based on the number of quizzes taken from books read. It is up to the teacher to choose, tweak, and/or change the goal. I have noticed that Aniyah’s goals have increased each quarter by five points which has boosted her confidence in reading. The appropriate goals have motivated and encouraged Aniyah to take ownership of her reading and has promoted greater reading growth. The ability to see connections between issues, relationships, and applications can shape Aniyah’s learning environment. Also, this particular intermediate school has a literacy team which includes a reading coach, reading specialist, and a counselor who targets struggling children early so that reading problems do not continue to the next grade. For example, I will have teachers team up with other teachers to discuss similar problems occurring within the classroom. I will have them brainstorm and come up with a plan that will help the students achieve gains. It is also important to mention classroom management. Steps that I will take to begin the school year will emphasize on what is expected in the classroom as far as behavior. I will set rules and regulations with clear consequences for unacceptable behavior. These rules will be enforced throughout the year in which students will eventually become accustom to them. I would also implement well designed professional development such as a collaborative and continuous learning environment. I would also develop a mentoring program to reduce feelings of isolation, increase teacher retention, foster long-lasting relationships, and build up an excess of methods and strategies to draw from throughout the school year (Ambrosetti,
