The irony Shakespeare directs to the condescendingly failure of Friar Laurence’s plan to be at the Capulet’s tomb before Romeo arrives, or Juliet wakes up from the potion. Friar Laurence is related to the theme of time because he was out of time to insure Romeo received the correct letter, and to be at the Capulet’s tomb. The significance of time Shakespeare uses broadly is Romeo and Juliet both being very young, not having enough time to experience life. While we would now never put the pressures on young adolescents to engage in marriage, Romeo and Juliet were both being pushed to be married. Time in the play reflects modern truth in society because it is widely important for us a person to take large amounts of time to make life changing decisions. In Romeo and Juliet, Shakespeare uses the theme of time through Juliet, Romeo, and Friar Laurence to focus on the tragedies caused by impulsive, or non effective long term
