A Christmas Carol is a classic tale of joy, generosity, and finding your holiday spirit. However, the story did not start off with everyone holding hands and peace on Earth. It began with greed, hate, and antagonism. The story continues to progress to the end, and as it does changes in its tone. Both versions of A Christmas Carol end with the heartwarming mood the story is so famous for. The drama and the movie based off of it have many similar qualities, but differ from each other just as much. The drama’s plot uses the Rule of Three to create an interesting story. It all starts with a ghost, Jacob Marley. He introduces the main character, Ebenezer Scrooge. It is Christmastime in London and all around Scrooge people are caroling, purchasing gifts, and wishing one another a happy Christmas. Not only inside does Scrooge despise Christmas, but he shows it wherever he goes. “Bah! Humbug!” (Dickens, 3) is Ebenezer’s exact definition of this holiday. Later that night, Scrooge is visited by three phantoms, that show him what his life has been, is, and will be if he continues on the path he has chosen to travel as a mortal (Dickens, 11-30)

Ebenezer Scrooge is a rich and unhappy individual , trying to make it through the Christmas season which he so hates. As the story continues, Scrooge realizes that the Christmas season really matters and is a time to be joyful and generous. This event comes to pass by the same three spirits as in the drama. As Ebenezer explores his past, present, and future, he finds that a selfish life will only lead to a lonely death, with people only happy that he had passed away. Ebenezer, trembling, makes his promise, and when he wakes in the morning on Christmas Day, sets out to fulfill his commitment (Video, 1984). Ebenezer does this by doing kind deeds such as giving to the Cratchit family anonymously. Tiny Tim gets better, thanks to Scrooge, and they both live happily ever
