College Students College is a time and a place for young adults to come into form of who they are. In the quest of gaining higher knowledge college students may not be so naïve to what they hear and what they learn. College represents a major developmental transition, which may be a time of personal growth as well as stress (Turner-Musa & Wilson , 2006). African-american college student. The number of African American students attending higher education in the U.S increased from 9% to 14% from 1978 to 2009 (U.S Department of Education, National Center for Education Statistics , 2010).…
Today's college students have many roles these days. This can vary from, competing in sports, being good students, role models out in public, clubs in school. Being a student athlete is much harder then what someone would expect. The time they put into a sport for example, football. All of the athletes are brought in 2 weeks before school starts and work their butts off until the first day of school.…
High schoolers, now heading to college, all they are looking forward to is having fun. When students show up to college, they find failing shocking. Realizing professors do not care if you fail or not, either way they still get paid. Students have to do more than just consume knowledge, they have to get involved. Join a club, start a club, participate in a sport, it is more than just learning.…
Why I decided to go back to school? My reason to go back to school probably could be the same as others, but I decided to go back to school to have a better life for myself. In addition, to my reason of wanting to go back to school was also because I wanted to be able to advance in my current job or even become a court administrator. The decision came to my mind when I was sitting in the living room watching a television program. It was commercial for one of the health colleges where some students were giving testimony of the reasons they went to that particular college and graduated.…
Privilege is a right, advantage, or freedom granted or available only to a particular person or group of people. As an American, I was born with a series of privileges. Some of those privileges are educational, financial, and etc. Educationally, I was born in a family where education was highly important and I learned that without this educational privilege I wouldn’t be able to do much in life. The greatest challenge for me with education is keeping my drive and devotion focused on the gratitude, without getting distracted by the potential luxuries and pleasures my point offers.…
Why am I going back to college now? Is now the right time to go back? How is this going to affect my family, employment and other responsibilities? Can I really do this? Should I do this?…
IT IS WHAT IT IS College is not meant for everyone in my opinion. Everyone has their own path in life and although education is very important, you do not always need a university to help you get where you want to be. To argue that every American should go to college is a brave statement. If every American graduated from college what would that mean exactly?…
I believe that college is important because it’s beneficial in the long run. There are many reasons why it’s a big deal to me. First of all, today’s minimum wage isn’t enough and college would definitely get me to a high paying job. The demands get more expensive each day. However, not just financially but for the opportunity and intelligence that comes along with college.…
College professors pace their courses more rapidly, emphasize different aspects of material taught, and have very different goals for their courses than high school teachers (Conley, 2007). It is also prevalent that the amount of studying required for high school is no were near the level of a successful college student. College faculty reported that freshman students need to be spending nearly twice as much time as their current study time to prepare for class (Conley, 2007). Unlike college students, students in high school are co-dependent on parents, teachers and other authority figures and only show interest in education when told to do so. College requires students to be independent, self-reliant learners who recognize when they are having problems and know how to seek help (Conley, 2007).…
With each passing year, more and more high school students are becoming unprepared for college. Senior’s are not being prepared correctly for college. U.S. News reports that more than half of community college freshmen are not prepared for college level assignments. Unprepared college students leads to things such as; college graduation numbers dropping, students are unable to get a degree and in turn have a difficult time finding a steady job. This creates a vicious cycle that gets worse with each generation.…
Obtaining a college degree is important for my future academically and personally. Without a college degree I am not able to achieve my academic and life goal of becoming a Veterinarian. To be a Veterinarian, I need to have a Bachelor’s Degree and a Doctor of Veterinary Medicine. Also I have to take two big test: the Graduate Record Examination, to get into vet school, and a 7 and a half hour 360 question long licensing test. Without a college degree, I would not be prepared for those test at all.…
I feel, simply, that college is not for everyone. An opportunity for some, the very structure of a collegiate education is a pitfall for many others. Consider the time-frame a college freshman faces at an undergraduate university. The majority of these young men and women enter college as just that: young.…
College kids can be reinforced by the parents paying for college if they get good grades and don’t engage in the alternative college lifestyle of partying instead of focusing on their grades. There is constant conditioning and reinforcements that we face several times throughout our…
Students are in complete control of how to balance their social life with their academic responsibilities. This takes tremendous self control to fully apply one’s self to their classes without the supervision of an adult telling them to do their homework. In the eyes of a parent, college appears to be a place where their kid can grow as a person and begin to develop independence as an…
Also, many students don’t have self confidence. They have a fear of failure. They should overcome this by not procrastinating and meet deadlines. Students don’t have a learning habit developed in high school, while in college the way of learning and studying is very…
