Laughter and comedy are some very important aspects for any social interaction. There is a great feeling of comedy that is gained from sharing a laugh with someone, and laughter crosses the boundaries of language, age, gender, and ethnicity. Laughter is an important and powerful element of society and can be used for many different effects.
With the evolution of entertainment, there has also been an evolution of comedy. Comedy has developed into unique forms because of the different types of comedy that can now be found from different mediums like movies, TV, YouTube, stand-up specials, and other forms scattered all over the internet. Comedy is one of the areas of entertainment that is the most difficult to comprehend because there is such a wide variety of things that can cause people to laugh. There is only a little more understanding for what causes comedy today than there was in the beginning of time. Comedies have been a staple of the American film industry since the days of Charlie Chaplin and Buster Keaton with the silent era, black and white, slapstick comedies. Movies themselves are a unique cognitive stimulus, so comedic movies are an individual slice of entertainment that combines the realm of comedy and of visual storytelling. Using the lenses of neuroscience and cognition to view comedic movies will provide an insight into how both of those realms have impact. Combining neuroscientific information about humor and film viewing, might create a guideline for comedic filmmakers to produce more effective movies going forward. If the effects of successful comedy movies can be better understood, then it will, hopefully, allow artists and entertainers to better construct their filmic humor to get their desired
