Many politicians believe that we can make college tuition free. Bernie Sanders suggested many steps to try to make college tuition free and debt free across America. Along with Bernie Sanders, the New York Governor just recently proposed free tuition at state colleges in New York. Governor Andrew Cuomo’s proposed program, “called the Excelsior Scholarship, would start this year and roll out over the next three. It would begin by making families who earn up to $100,000 a year eligible in the fall of 2017.” The New York State legislator needs to vote on the program before his idea is passed. Many politicians don’t agree with Cuomo’s idea. “Governor Cuomo isn’t providing ‘free’ tuition, he’s simply telling New York taxpayers to write a bigger check,” said New York State assembly Republican Leader Brian Kolb, “At the end of the day someone has to pay the bill, and once again his political ambitions will be subsidized by the highest-taxed people in America.” Free college for everyone will only make this issue worse. It will put a tax burden on not only the government, but also American citizens. The only reasonable way to solve this is to not cut education costs completely, but to reduce them. It is becoming more difficult for student to afford to go to college. However without a college education, they have a chance of risking their future. This issue can be solved by reducing college tuition altogether, and setting a student loan borrowing limit. Having a limit can prevent families suffering from financial debt years after they’re done with college. This issue must be controlled, before it gets even
