Resilient means to able to withstand or recover quickly from difficult conditions. I have worked for a supervisor who would shoot down ideas that he didn’t agree with even though others did. Instead of helping to craft the correct recommendations, he would shoot holes in the ideas until I felt it was not need to press forward. We are the voice of the junior enlisted and are entrusted to forward up the chain of command, ideas and thoughts that might be affecting their performance of morale. I can do a better job at listening. As I came from a highly technical position, I usually know the answer or formulate my opinion prior to someone finishing their question/problem. I, at times, finish their thought or cut them off to provide my opinion. This can come off as that I am not listening to them or giving enough thought on their perspective. I need to slow down in listening to people as in by letting them talk through the problem they can usually can format a game plan. This allows me to provide guidance or how to frame and/or address the situation.
While in a CMC position, I am used to sharing the current and future state of the Coast Guard Reserve. Based on the feedback provided, I need to ask more people what their vision and dreams are of the future. As I am winding down my CG career they will be the ones to carry out their dreams and aspirations after I am retired. Inspiring people is a passion of mine but maybe I need to ask more for their forecast before providing
