The teacher also uses form shape manipulatives, colored tiles, red-yellow counters, rulers (inches and centimeters), online resources (dreambox), SMART projector, and document camera. In the lesson I observed on March 20, the teacher was reviewing interpreting bar graphs with her class. The students used different colored pencils so that they could represent each bar in different colors. The teacher displayed a copy of the worksheet under her document camera so that all the students could see what she was talking about when she pointed to a part of the document. For their warm up earlier that day, students reviewed comparison of measurements and were given the chance to use rulers to draw each line. They could then visually see the difference

After the briefing Sergeant Hopkins assigned me to conduct the crime scene investigation. The classroom was originally secured by Phoenix Police Department prior to the search warrant being signed. I have observed in most to all of the students ‘accommodations list sheet, students need a visual aids and cues during instruction and could be used during formative and summative assessments. During my direct teaching, Ms. Boerema projected the plot structure map on her computer, which was displayed on the white board for students and myself to see and use during this part of the lesson. Also, during my direct teaching, I had manipulatives of laminated and colored paper of part of plot structure and definitions of each part of the lesson. To increase active classroom engagement, I would have each student put a definition of each part of plot structure on the white board. This allows students to move to and from the whiteboard back to their seats, which can help students become more attentive through movement than having the students sit in their seats.…

It may appear like just child’s play, but toddlers are hard at work learning important physical skills as they gain muscle control, balance, and coordination. This is what I learned the day I observed my 36-month-old niece when on a play date with two other toddlers. Through observation I was able to gain a good understanding of why play is so critical at this stage in their growth and development, and I believe that there is no better way to learn about these themes than by observing play in action. This paper will discuss my observations and how it compares or contrasts to what is expected in the development of toddlers. Comparisons Play amplifies toddlers’ physical and psychosocial development.…

In the Pre-K classroom that I observed it consisted of several different centers for the children to participate in, such as: block area, dramatic play, art, library, sand/water table, music/movement, sensory area, finger painting, play dough, and the students got the opportunity to make their own snacks. Not only did the students get to participate in centers, they had the opportunity each day to go outside and play on the playground as well as having an interactive lecture every morning at circle time and when the students sat down at their tables to do their daily worksheet. I believe that the Pre-K class I observed was a mix between traditional teaching as well as constructivism, creating a balance between the two. In the morning during circle time, the teacher would “lecture” the students with the letter of the day, go over the date, months, days of the week, shapes, and the numbers up to the date it currently was.…

Additionally, my cooperating teacher, Mrs. Jessica Diaz, is still extremely helpful and even allows me to teach the students in small-groups.
