If it weren’t for our country, winning the Civil war, we wouldn’t have had the freedom it has today. As Abraham Lincoln stated in the Gettysburg address, “...that we highly resolve that these dead shall not have died in vain” ( paragraph 4). This is showing that people have died in a battle for the rest of us, living, to have a free life. This is also showing that Abraham possibly also wanted them to experience the freedom we are receiving. Another thing he said from the Gettysburg address was “ ...that this nation, under god, shall have a new birth of freedom, and that the government of the people, by the people, shall not perish from the earth” (paragraph 4).
