City Of God Analysis

While these movies were a lot a like in many ways throughout their esseense and what the story is about, I liked City of God the best. I liked the fact that the movie was very fast paced, in color and it seems for some reason more like comic/action movie. The movie would have fast zooms on a characters faces and we could see the camera physically move and shake which you normally don't in movies now, it was more like a documentary than a all in all fake movie. We see how Rocket grows up and he tells us the story of how he got to where he is now, which was in between two gangs. We can see how the movie goes from a small situation to an even bigger one. Then the cycle starts all over again. In the end, the group of kids who were in the gangs to …show more content…
It is an inevitable cycle. Right from the bat the children of this group had already been part of gangs and they had fired a gun. In the beginning the kids are almost scared of the guns. We see the movies color changes, sometimes it has a bright orange tone and sometimes it has a gray tone or a blue tone and I think it does a good job on showing the emotions through the story. The movie shows a lot about how a person tries to overcome these obstacles in these conditions and whilst everyone else either stays in the city or becomes part of the violence, Rocket is able to get out because he fights for what he wants to do which is be a photographer.
On the other hand, La Haine takes a different approach. None of them really want to get out do they? They want to stay and fight. They really dont take another direction or look of the outcomes. Once Vinz wants to try to kill a police he tries to kill, but realizes he is not a killer he thought he wanted to be. He

City of God (2002, Fernando Meirellas, Katia Lund) has a very unique editing style. Some of the scenes have cuts between certain characters points of view. One example of this is during Benny’s (Phellipe Haagensen) going away party where the audience are watching Li'l Zé’s (Leandro Firmino) point of view where he is making the party goer strip for his amusement, then the camera cuts to Benny and Angelica (Alice Braga) dancing having a great time. Throughout this scene we also see Rocket (Alexandre Rodrigues) and Blacky’s (Rubens Sabino) point of views as well.…

In Punished by Victor Rios, besides labeling, opportunity theory of crime is the most visible in the lives of the young men because for most of the participants, the only available opportunities for survival are through crime or other deviant behavior. In chapter 3, Rios follows two boys who each found their way into crime because of the lack of other options. In the case of Tyrell, with his father being unable to get a real job, Tyrell saw selling drugs as the only way to make money with which to support himself. “They chose to commit a crime,” Rios comments of the boys in his study, “consciously calculating the potential risk of arrest and incarceration. The online video The ‘Superpredator’ Scare illustrates the wave of crimes committed by youths in the 1900’s, but mainly depicts the murder of an eleven year old (Robert Sandifer aka “Yummy”) committed by the brothers Craig and Derrick Hardaway in Chicago. The video includes testimonies from criminal analysts and linguistics people to further explain the theory of “superpredators” conducted by John J.DiIulio Jr, and analyze if the study was the explanation to why youth delinquency was occurring, and could be applied to the Hardaway brothers. The term was commonly used throughout America, and DiIulio utilized it to predict that the crime rates of youths would triple through the years, only to conclude that the term “superpredator” and his prediction wasn’t accurate, which resulted in the truth that youth crimes had decreased in the 90’s.…

In Renegade Dreams, Ralph tells the story of activists, gang leaders, patients and teenagers while constantly refusing to portray them as victims. He gives us a glimpse into Eastwood, “a community that was battered but far from beaten.” Caught in the bonds of racism and poverty, the Fontenelles appeared Parks’ article A Harlem Family, in Life Magazine. Terrorism, bloodshed and power status sums up the focal points embedded within the movie, City of God, directed by Fernando Meirelles, and Kátia Lund. These themes create definitions for several theories. The first theory in comparison to the movie is Strain Theory. Because of the economic strain of the people within the film, most turn to criminal activity. “Many families were homeless due to the flooding and acts of arson in the slums” (Meirelles, 2002).…
