Introduction to Law: City Council Assignment I initially sat down to watch the city council meeting with the attention to suffer for the following two hours. I was constantly thinking about why I chose this class as an elective. I am a nursing student and have no interest in politics or business. However, to my surprise, I really enjoyed the atmosphere and was allured into the discussions as they got me rationalizing my thoughts. Listening to the different perspective concerning why some things may benefit and some may not, I had the urge to yell out my opinion on the topics being discussed. It was very interesting listening to the different point of view and having an “aha” moment. I did not know that the city council meetings are held …show more content…
The individual proposing listed how the community can benefit as it reduces greenhouse emission and reduces transportation costs. My initial thoughts towards this topic were, why to waste money on such resources when there aren’t many people who have such luxurious and fuel-efficient cars. I understand how they are better for the environment because they do not use any gasoline, however, in the current busy and rushed lifestyle, there isn’t enough time for people to leave their cars in the parking for them to charge. It was very intriguing when a council member, Jillian Merrick stated: “I would already have one of these cars if there were many resources around the city”. This statement challenged my thinking and I realized that it was a validating point. With the advancing technology, more people may buy such cars if enough resources were provided. The councils decided to agree with the plan and move forward as it will not only benefit the community in becoming environmentally friendly but also initiate a bigger framework for more advanced technologies.
