The majority of large animation producers of the time were drafted in to produce informational films for a number of different aspects of the war effort. Animation was now being sought after as a form of motivating and explaining in an engaging manner due to its relatively simplistic nature of the time (Solomon, 1994). It seemed that animation had begun to move away from the notion that it could only be used as a form of entertainment. It was now being utilized for its ability to convey information. Delgaudio (1997) claims that animations were effectively filling this role because they are watched more attentively than live action film or lectures.…

In the very best examples of claymation, a filmmaker’s ability to focus on subtle movements and details makes their characters look lifelike and fluid. If you’ve done a good job building your clay character, they’ll end up looking less like Frankenstein’s Monster and more like something you might find walking down the street! One of the ways that professional clay animators do this is by making multiple versions of one feature of a character, rather than trying to move it for each frame. For example, a clay person might have 20 or more mouths, each one with different expressions that the animator can swap out in between shots. If the character is smiling, their smile has to grow.…

Very quickly, we also got involved in the look development of the storm, which is a character in itself, alongside other sequences. In total, we worked on 18 different sequences split over 5 episodes (1, 2, 3, 4 and although Cinesite’s work covered a good range of visual effects, they were predominantly driven by environment work. 2. What was the brief for the look, what were the references?…

Computer animation has always faced the challenge of recreating reality. The hypothesis of the uncanny valley is the hypothesis that the more human-like something is the more its subtle imperfections make people feel uneasy (Willie Bouwer et al. 186). Humans know what humans are supposed to be like and when the recreation does not meet their expectation the person rejects it and may even be revolted by it. The driving force behind Pixar is not creating realistic worlds but exploring new worlds through believable characters and stories. Pixar is aware of the limitations of technology but they constantly try to push beyond it.…

‘Just one hour of this and you can go back to sleep’ was the phrase I groggily repeated to myself as I got ready to register for my freshman year of high school. Had I known that the mountain of paperwork I was about to fill out that late July morning would ultimately lead to me finding my passion, I would have definitely been a lot more enthusiastic. I traded all my information for my schedule, only to realize that there was one slight problem: P.E. was on my list of courses for the year. Physical education? I sought out my counselor immediately to fix this quandary.…

Hello and welcome! Thanks for coming by today. So, I have an idea for a movie that will be unlike anything you have ever heard of, thought of, or have seen. One of the best things about this pitch you’re going to hear is that it is for an animated film project, which allows us to save some costs and yet be even more adventurous. The mission statement would explain who the main consumers will be, goods and services that are produced by the company, and the geographic location of the business. According to Belcher, L. (2013), “Most companies have a mission statement that gives people an idea of their overall goals for the organization.” In short, the mission statement is basically an outline of the business’s purpose, the industry, and their competitive advantage which could be as simple as a brief statement outlining the company’s objectives and viewpoints. The mission statement would also need to be communicated efficiently company-wide. It is also important that the mission statement is reviewed periodically to ensure that everything is still accurate, and that all employees have a clear understanding of the mission statement.…

Animation did many wonders onto others and the world. Some ideas take time to create, some is by mistake. For example, Alex Hirsch, creator of Gravity Falls came up with the show based on his childhood with his twin sister Ariel. Dipper, one of the main character was based on himself, and Mabel, Dipper’s Twin sister, is based on his twin sister. The setting is also based on when the twins went camping when they were younger.…
