According to Zhang, “many families cannot pay back the debt from education investment as expected and find themselves in deeper poverty”. Some of these low income families are so devoted to their children’s education the accumulate debt. For example having their children attend private school, and tuition fees. Some of these families try to come up with this money so their children can have a more promising future but this leads them into debt. In the film Born with a Wooden Spoon it stated “when poor children return to school in the fall and they’re tested with along with their classmates, poor children have lost test points over the summer.” Meaning that they have fallen behind to the middle and upper class students. With middle and upper class children they are more exposed to cultural things such as camps and museums. While poor children do not have the resources to do such activities. It is estimated that about 38 percent of the homeless are substance abusers” (Carroll). Due to the over use of drugs and alcohol it is more likely for a person to lose their job. If any money he or she does have is often spent on more drugs and alcohol to consume. The people of the poor that are suffering from substance abuse will do anything to get money to purchase drugs or alcohol. For example, bowering money from friends or family, stealing, pawning valuable possessions, or standing on the street asking for money from strangers. As a result the people closes to them may not want to offer them money anymore, and can possibly go to jail. In conclusion there are many causes and effects as to why there is so much poverty in Arizona. Some people find their self in tough circumstances because of the choices they made or because of factors beyond their own control. Such causes and effects being; teen pregnancy due to the fact that some teen parents are forced out of their homes and drop out of school. Which leads to the education issue. That most of the teens who have dropped out of school often have a hard time getting a job. Where then they are forced to live on the streets. Which can cause some of them to turn to substance
