Since the reestablishment of the death penalty in 1977, there have been multiple documented cases of falsely accused people ending up on death row for crimes they did not commit. The majority of these people were convicted due to improperly handled evidence by either attorneys, police, or forensic specialists. According to Lester, 1993 an investigation into the then current Chief Serologist of San Antonio, Texas, revealed over 133 cases of murder and rape in which the evidence was falsely or incorrectly tested, resulting in convictions of innocent people. One of these cases in particular saw an innocent man placed on death row for three years, for a murder he did not commit, and had absolutely nothing to do with. These wrongfully imprisoned people will never get the years of their life back that were stolen by the faulty justice system. Further, the fact that there have been without a doubt many innocent people put to death in our country due to these faults is horrifying (n.p.). We have many unfortunate flaws in our justice system which can lead to the mistreatment and possible execution of valued human life. Human error should never be the cause of someone 's life being taken. The only real way to keep these tragic incidents from happening, would be to abolish the death penalty
