1 million new relationships between youth and the police with her project: bTrue.
Deanna created bTRUE as a partnership project between the Boys and Girls Club of Kingston, where she works, and area & Kingston City Police. Deanna, a proud Kingstonian with over 25 years of community involvement experience is working with Constable Josh Conner, the Kingston Police Service’s Youth Programs Officer and YCJA coordinator on the project. They will be taking it to The Breakout Project next week, where they hope to transition the plan from ideation to reality.
Knowing firsthand the need to break down societal barriers between youth and police, the team is creating a national platform with a community toolbox of programs to share with partners to execute initiatives at the regional level. With the help of the Breakout Project, Deanna and her team are aiming to create 1,000,000 new relationships between youth and local police across North America within 365 days. The Breakout Project Over 48 hours, teams will compete in Canada’s biggest social innovation event. Participants will work around the clock to kickstart year-long social good projects designed to improve our community, society and planet. Hundreds of attendees will rally behind teams while millions more will show their support online through social media and live stream video. Each social enterprise team competes to raise both human and financial capital required to take their project from idea to reality – in just one year. Attendees, visionary speakers, mentors and citizens online will watch, participate, learn and connect unlike ever before and all in celebration of Canada and Ontario’s 150th anniversary. This experience will be broadcast and streamed online so more than just spectators can participate and share their knowledge, donating time and capital, and creating connections to support the teams they believe in.
