Sam Nichols, 12, and Toby Nichols, 10, revealed world-record smiles as they postured with their prospective world-record tuna captures that even fishermen on the truth cable television series "Wicked Tuna" would require to port.
"Wow. Wow. Wow. I am in awe of my kids," Stuart Nichols wrote on his Stuart Nichols Personalised Sea Charters Facebook page.
Fishing at Hippolyte Rocks off the Tasman Peninsular in southeast Tasmania, the boys hooked up all at once on JB Lures (the jigs can be seen in the picture). Sam took 1 hour, 50 minutes to land a 246.92-pound southern bluefin tuna; Toby required 3 1/2 hours to land a 262.35-pounder.
Both beat the existing International Game Fish Association world records for their age departments. Sam's tuna certifies as a junior world record (ages 11-16) while Toby's certifies as a small fry world record (10 and under). …show more content…
"We knew basically quickly they were world-record size for their age, so we're pretty delighted," Stuart told Australian Broadcasting Corporation, including that it was a "pretty amazing effort for young boys to catch fish like that."
"They were tired, they were definitely exhausted," Stuart told ABC. "I didn't think they 'd have the ability to do it on their own."
Samples of the line, the lures and all measurements have actually been gathered and will be sent out to the state body and then to the Australian body for confirmation, Stuart explained to ABC. Most likely the Australian body will certainly forward them to the IGFA, the main keeper of fishing world records.
"I am one proud papa," Stuart added Facebook.
