In 1988, Bob Lazar was hired by a government contractor to work on an exotic spacecraft at Area 51 and to help reverse engineer it for power production. He easily landed the job because of his extensive knowledge in physics and electronics which he acquired at Massachusetts Institute of Technology and California Institute of Technology. On Lazar’s first day, he had to sign a “10/10 agreement which expressed that disclosing any of the information presented to him would result in a $10,000 fine and a 10-year imprisonment sentence” (Patton). One of the many reasons as to why Lazar was required to sign this agreement is because the staff demanded that Area 51 remain confidential and by enforcing such severe punishments, they believed it would deter the employee from divulging any material related to the facility.
