Bethany Hamilton had immense courage as a thirteen year old girl who lost her arm to a shark while surfing and not long after losing her arm heroically returned to surfing.
Bethany Hamilton was born in Hanalei, Kauai, Hawaii on February 8, 1990. She is the daughter of Tom and Cheri Hamilton. She also has two older brothers. Noah is eight years older than her and Timothy is four years older than her. At a young age Bethany was apart of the Hanalei Surf Co. Team. Bethany’s parents taught her to surf at age two. Bethany built her own foundation called Friends of Bethany. Friends of Bethany reaches out to fellow amputees and youth. Along with traveling and other charitable events, Bethany now has her own family. Bethany married Adam Dirks in 2013. Together they have a adorable son named Tobias.
