“Sometimes things fall apart so that better things can fall together” as Marilyn Monroe once said. Though the time periods between Marilyn and Nwoye are very far apart they hold the same message. From the beginning Nwoye from Things Fall Apart, by Chinua Achebe didn't feel as though he belonged in his family, it’s this feeling that led him to leave everything he knew behind and join the missionaries; showing that change isn’t always a bad things and good can come from broken.
Firstly was Nwoye’s feeling of not belonging which is a very first indicator that he won’t be the man Okonkwo would like him to be. In the story we learn about many characters and how they take this new challenge of the missionaries. From Okonkwo to Nwoye it affects so many people so differently. Nwoye it was very good for him. It gave him a whole new life and a whole new career. He even gained a new name and purpose as it says in the story “...Nwoye, who was now called Isaac, to the new training college for teachers...”(134). This is one of the reason that it was good for him. Change may not always be what we want in life but sometimes it may be what we need. In the end this change may have saved his life.
In conclusion Nwoye was brought from one life into a completely different one and used it to not only strengthen himself but others around him. Nwoye is much more than a character he is a someone you can relate and look up to. Many people are black sheeps in their family and this shows that life can change in an instant for the better. In this novel, Chinua Achebe shows how the differing in one culture to another and how it affects everyone differently and that overcoming our struggles is one change
