The only two things on my mind were to change my completely drenched clothes and to jump in bed and take a nice, long nap. Three steps in through the garage door and through my peripheral vision I noticed a very unusual opening in my backyard. My initial reaction was to look outside through the glass door and process what stood before me. The trees and the bushes and the vines (polysyndeton) that had once grown plentiful and strong were all gone. All that remained was a naked, worn down, wooden fence with some freshly sawed tree stumps and nothing but a mess of leaves and sticks surrounding them. (imagery) It was so depressing to see such beauty destroyed in such little time, especially with no prior notice. My goal of drying off and sleeping had completely disappeared. For some odd reason, all I could think of was to go outside and look for any nests with newborn birds that had fallen from the trees. Yes you read that correctly. I slid the glass door wide open and jumped outside completely ignoring the rain which was once again drenching me. Somewhat to my surprise, in less than five minutes out in the rain I found a twig nest with these green, little creatures inside it. I gazed at them for a while in awe of my discovery and in shock. Clearly, the criminals who had caused this tragedy had placed them near the fences in hopes of someone taking responsibility of these three orphans. Fortunately, before a stray cat or even a dog came to “take responsibility,” (satire) I had found these forlorn babies. Before even considering to wear gloves or even putting into account that these tiny animals could hold diseases, I grabbed their little nest and ran inside the house to save them from the terrible weather. Unfortunately, being inside brought many new dangers, the main hazard being my cat who would literally eat them like some sort of poultry snack. Keeping that in mind, I placed the nest in a little Amazon cardboard box and created a heated environment for them with my desktop lamp. One by one, I took the little, green fledglings and gently dried them off with some paper towels. Once they were settled in there new and improved nest, which I had padded with some paper towels, I began to do some research to figure out what type of birds they were and what was their food intake.
