Polly’s speech and her thoughts reminded me how Sally thought. Primarily, this thinking pertains to how the women discuss their husbands. Both women questioned the thoughts of their husband and by their line of questioning they seem insecure about themselves. Also, the wives stated how their husbands are hiding something from their past; Polly isn’t used to that while Sally tries to play it off as if she knows everything. The allusion to Hansel and Gretel in this representation of Hansel and Gretel distorted me, drawing me out of the reading. By mentioning the fairy tale directly as the story did, it felt focused. However, I'm inclined to admit that may be if I didn't know this story was based on Hansel and Gretel, my reaction might’ve been different. Still, I think alluding to another story, or instead of mentioning Hansel and Gretel, describe the plot of Hansel and Gretel in some way that wouldn't make the acknowledgment
