Bad Things I Learned In G. R. A. T.

Improved Essays
Seeing bad things happen all around to good people is truly heartbreaking. Having people lose family members, best friends, or even siblings makes people realize, not everything is your choice. People could get involved in gangs, violence, shoplifting, or even worse things that can put you at a risk, maybe even getting thrown in jail. But luckily, I learned how to make good choices and avoid these problems during G.R.E.A.T.. In G.R.E.A.T., I learned many things that can help me in life. But, the thing I will always remember is when we learned to think about others. We talked about how you should always look the person you’re talking to in the eye, answer questions, and get involved in the conversation. This was something I know I will …show more content…
skill we learned was in lesson 8, say it like you mean it. This lesson taught me how to refuse against things I don’t want to do, that could harm me, or hurt me in the future. Some of the excuses I know that I will use are: Blame someone else on why you can’t do something, say no and MEAN IT, and just keep saying no. These are all helpful to me because they can work in just about any situation and I can see myself using all of them. For example, in the future if I’m ever asked to drink or do drugs illegally, I have good ways to say no. I also wanted to talk about lesson 10, keeping your cool. This lesson helps us by teaching us ways to cope with anger. We learned that you can count to 5 and try to relax, or walk away. When you are angry, it’s because you’re involved with something that makes you upset or annoyed. You should avoid getting angry, because studies show that people who get hostile are nineteen percent more likely to get heart disease than more calmer people than themselves. It also makes your blood vessels tighten up which makes it hard for your blood to flow through your …show more content…
I have goals I’m hoping to reach. Some this year and some maybe when I’m twenty-six. Right now, I want to get all ones in seventh grade. To achieve this goal, I’m going to do all my homework as good as I can and study hard for every test I have, even if it’s a silly spelling test. This year, I’m also going to try to get a back tuck, or back flip. I’m on a dance team and I would really like to do it in one of my dances. To achieve a back tuck, I will practice on nailing my back-handspring and work on it every day to be comfortable to do a backflip. But, when I’m older, I want to be a dermatologist. I will achieve getting this by having a successful job, doing well in school, studying hard, and going to college. Also, when I’m older, I will want to volunteer somewhere like an animal shelter. It will help my community and I would get to be with amazing animals. To accomplish this last goal I will continue to learn about animals and do extracurricular activities to help animals. Currently, my family and I donate blankets each year to the Nebraska Humane Society for the

If the teacher expressed disgust or anger or talks too much then the process of this approach will not be as effective. This resonated with me because as an educator I want to make sure I am always expressing Christ-like love to my students. This book always reminded me that when dealing with behavioral issues I need to be concise and not talk too much. Teaching with Love and Logic also discussed immediate consequences and delayed consequences.…

For me, the most compelling and insightful lesson was lesson 4, the Western Frontier and Expansion. While I hate to admit this, I never paid attention during my history lessons and therefore had incredibly limited knowledge of western expansion and manifest destiny. Through this lesson I was able to look through the perspective of the American settlers as they began expanding into territory that they believed was their god given right. I learned about the powerful religious pull experienced by the colonists and that the doctrine was built on three principles; faith in the Bible, faith alone, and faith in the priesthood. This "faith" many will argue, is merely a poor excuse for the brutal and usually unjust treatment of the Native American Indians.…
