Introduction Having a girl as a best friend being a guy and vice versa has been understood by the millennial generation to be something we slightly take for granted, but about twenty years ago this was more of a rare occurrence rather than an everyday part of society. In her article “JUST FRIENDS” author Carlin Flora analyses the recent trend in raising numbers of opposite sex friendships and how physical attraction to each other and interest in a romantic relationship affects these relationships compared to friendships of the same sex. Flora (2014) debunks the ancient myth that men and women cannot just be friends by displaying statistical data analysis and pointing out that although physical attractiveness can undermine the legitimacy of this type of friendship the benefits prevail over. She gives the example of men being able to seek guidance from their female friends regarding other women they are interested in and vice versa. Moreover, opposite sex relationships can have a positive influence on mental health. She ultimately proves that physical attraction is not undermining legitimacy of cross sex friendships by making the reader understand that there are multiple types of physical attractiveness. Understanding as an individual that there is or will be physical/sexual attraction at some point of the friendship can allow both parties of the relationship to stay loyal to their friendship and not risk any damage to their relationship by assuming that friend might actually be a great mating partner or just simply more than a
