CLS- The handling expresses the emotion on the subject’s face due to brush work that’s being applied and have soft black background that sits well in the composition.
9. 1907, Sloan John, The Hairdresser’s Window, American, Ashcan.
TXT- He created this painting from his mind after visiting Henri at his studio and witnessed him at a hairdresser shop. He recreated the scene from the moment he arrived home to complete the finish piece. Page 339
CLS- This was rejected because it’s common subject with low unglamorous subject and the Ashcan school accepted it because it’s where all the waste gets
