One of the major questions asked; “Is abortions ethical?” Abortions are defined as “the expulsion of a fetus from the uterus by natural causes before it is able to survive independently” (Page, 2017). Abortions have been the most controversial topic that life itself has faced, because of this, groups of “as pro-life and pro-choice” (Morris, 2012), have been created. Abortion has been practiced and debated since ancient times. The Hebrew were the first to consider it, and that was only if the mother’s life was at risk. The next people who looked farther in-depth were the Christians and The Church. For hundreds of years they were opposed to it, but later in life accepted it under some conditions. Because of this, people adapted new technologies to advance the safety of the mother, new ideas were brought into perspective and the idea of an abortion travelled along to parts of the world, like Canada. This idea even being considered started the log lasting debate of what is right and wrong.
The people that are considered “Pro-life” believe that the start of life isn’t until the fetus develops a heartbeat, viable human anatomy parts, and can “sustain life on its own” (Morris, Abortion , 2012). Advocates that have shared their opinion have strongly expressed how people should have a choice, the support their evidence in saying
“A bug has more characteristics of being a living creature than a fetus before eight weeks of pregnancy... In other words, if a man or woman kills an insect, they have just killed something that has more brain activity than a fetus prior to eight weeks gestation” (Group, 2017)
This idea of where life starts is what makes the idea so debatable, people for all over the world have been arguing their points for

The people who consider themselves in this group, believe strongly that the idea of an abortion is morally wrong and should be

One of the oldest and most controversial global topic that still stirs much debate today is abortion. An abortion is the early termination of a pregnancy and has been widely performed in many societies throughout the years. The main arguments that have laid the groundwork concerning the issue are that of anti-abortionists and pro-choicers. Anti-abortionists argue the fact for fetuses displaying human-like features, whereas pro-choicers’ point is that fetuses are not rational agents, they lack concepts and reasoning. However, philosopher Don Marquis states that the anti-abortionists argument is too broad and the pro-choicers argument is too narrow.…

For pro-life activists, there are two opinions. The first overwhelming opinion is that once the child is conceived, it is living. The second follows the idea of once a mother feels the child “kick,” which is around the eighth week, it is living. For pro-choice activists, scientific fact argues loudly that the fetus is absolutely “unable to sustain life outside the woman’s womb… instead an in utero fetus with the potential of becoming a child.” (Planning Parenthood)…

The topic of abortion is an extremely delicate one that is not to be taken lightly by any means. This debate is so delicate that it is possible that there may never be a mutual agreement reached between supporters of “Pro-Life” and “Pro-Choice” alike. If an agreement is to be reached it is imperative that we answer several tedious questions like “At what point of conception is the unborn child living and at what point does it have basic human rights?” for example. Questions like this contain no easy answer and they will not be easily answered.…

‘’It is just a blob of tissue, not a baby” (“Pro Life Vs Pro Choice: An Introduction to the Debate’’). Because most abortions are done with in the first trimester or slightly after, it is hard to consider it as killing a living, breathing human being. ‘’Personhood begins after a fetus is able to survive outside of the womb or after birth, not at conception’’ (“Should Abortion Be Legal?”). Out of the seven characteristics of life, five cannot be demonstrated by a fetus within the first trimester if it was to be removed from the womb of the mother. These characterizes of life are as follows: all living things grow, all living things reproduce, all living things have the ability to adapt to their environments, all living things use energy, and all living things have the ability to respond to different stimuli introduced into their environment (“The seven characteristics of life”).…

“If we accept the fetus as a person, it would imply that the fetus has the same rights that belong to a person, including the right of living” (Kadayifçi et al, 64). This proves that when morality is included into the topic of pro-life and pro-choice, pro-choice may not seem as ethically accurate. “If the fetus is a person and has the right to live, it is wrong to end the life of an innocent person, and no one would question the innocence of the fetus” (Kadayifçi et al, 64). Therefore, if people could see the fetus as just another person, they may be more prone to consider abortion as a bad…

In today’s societies around the world, there is currently two factions of the highly controversial topic of abortion and whether it should be allowed or outlawed. These two factions on opposite sides are pro-choice and pro-life. Pro-choice supporters in essence believes a woman has the right to an abortion if she decides to do so. On the other hand, pro-life supporters believe the fetus is its own human being and has the right to live, thus an abortion cannot be performed on the woman. Judith Jarvis Thomson, a philosophy professor supports the right to an abortion in her paper, “A defense of Abortion” (186).…

People are known for having sympathetic feelings to a child who is visible over the unborn fetus. However, pro-life activists hold that emotions that cannot form a basis for justifying birth. With the fetus being born or not being born; the fetus does have a chance in becoming a full human being. Viability of a fetus to survive outside the womb independently is when the fetus is able to get that ‘full human being’ status. Abortion also raises ethical issues of character.…

Pro-choice supporters argue that "abortion is not murder unless one considers the fetus to be a person" (Sobel, 1994, para.1). However, "the ‘genetic definition ' of personhood…holds…that personhood begins at the moment of conception... Since the whole genetic code is established when the ovum and sperm are united, and each code is unique, a unique person is…created at the moment of conception." (Sobel, 1994, para.1). As medical science has come to recognizes that a new life is present from conception, it is accurate to state that abortion is murder because a life is ended.…
