A significant time in history was the conquering and colonization of Africa. What happened during this event was tragic and even made some people uncomfortable. This doesn’t mean that people shouldn’t learn about it. The colonization of Africa is an important part of history, but in order to fully understand it readers must first learn why Africa was even conquered. Africa was colonized and conquered for economic, political, and cultural reasons. Britain wanted things from Africa so they took them, it was wrong and was stealing. This is a time in history where Africa was wronged and they never really were righted. An important reason to talk about economics, or basically money. Britain was extremely money hungry, a perfect example of this is in document …show more content…
Document D. They knew that since those lands were rich in expensive materials, that was the land they wanted. They again were thinking about money. They saw an opening and took it, which gave them a great gain. Not only was Africa colonized for economic reasons, but also political. For as long as there have always been political reasons for doing almost anything major in the world. In document A there is a map of Africa and how it was split up between the European powers. Document A: This shows a political aspect of it, they all had to agree with how Africa was split up. The places with more land went to the stronger powers. This can cause tension between the powers, or even cause competition. Another example of this is, “..It would be wise if we Germans would learn about colonial skills from our Anglo Saxon[British] cousins and would begin-in a friendly competition- to strive after them.”(Document B) This is saying that they want competition between certain places and that they should “Strive after them.” This shows the political reasoning perfectly, they wanted to show who was better in a political way.
