The ships that come in have previously been caught up in icebergs and sometimes cause oil spills which damage wildlife and the environment such as the sea creatures and larger mammals like penguins which get stuck in the oil and die. Back in November 2007, there was an oil spill in Antarctic waters which disrupted over 2500 penguins on route to their mating grounds. This ship, unfortunately, hit an iceberg on its way.
