1 Timothy 2:12, “But I suffer not a woman ... to usurp authority over the man, but to be in silence”. Women are not to usurp authority over men. But I view what Miss Hutchinson has been doing as indeed practicing authority over men. She has been preaching to members of the Boston community at her house, and the people in attendance have been both females and males. I do not believe that you will absolutely know what he has decided for you until you have left this life. There may be hints, you may have a notion as to what is to come for you. But who is to say what exactly tells you in this life if you are to be sanctified. Perhaps Anne is correct, and there is an instantaneous change in your life where God speaks directly to you and that is the strongest evidence you may receive.
