Purpose of study:
The purpose of this article is to explain why animal studies are important for occupational therapy theory and practice and its relation with neuroscience. The results from animal studies do not directly impact occupational therapy interventions, but they provide evidence that supports occupational therapy practice and theories.
Significance of this study to body of knowledge: This article illustrates the importance of animal studies to the growing body of knowledge to occupational therapy theory and practice. …show more content…
Instead, the authors looked at the body of knowledge currently available and in use for animal studies and its relation to occupational therapy and neuroscience. The article is broken down into three sections: introduction, body, and conclusion.
Findings:
In the article the authors describe the benefits of animal studies and the results that it may have for occupational therapy practice. This includes research on neuroplasticity, neurological conditions, and typical neural system function. The results from these studies provide a scientific basis that supports the use of occupational interventions as a means of therapy. It helps practitioners gain knowledge on potential treatments for neurological functions. It helps practitioners improve or modify interventions that they already employ in therapy. Implications for future: In the future, animal studies will provide a larger body of knowledge that supports occupational therapy theory and interventions. Animal studies provide a practical approach to research that requires strict criteria, large sample sizes, or humanly unethical techniques. This type of research allows therapist to gain knowledge in neurobiological research, and how this research can be used to improve practice and interventions. In conclusion, T\the authors noted that future research should be conducted on neurobiological effects of occupational therapy interventions and how neurobiological
