Professor Magnet The poem I chose was “Our lives are Swiss” by Emily Dickinson. I felt many emotions from this poem as categorize them. I ended up with the categories of solitude, disquietude and curiosity. She seems to feel that she is being deprived of this life other than the one she is used to and comfortable with. She mentions in the poem of these curtains and the neglect of making sure they are there. She is seeing past these so called curtains and seeing a different life. She is curious but she doesn’t want to be because she is so comfortable with her life. She is looking figuratively out this window that was once covered with curtains and now is bare for her to see all these things and different ways of living around her. The category of solitude is basically brought on by this image of her staring out this window alone wondering if she dares to open it and be outside her comfort zone. She is kind of a reserved person she is possibly comparing herself to Sweden in a way. She sees the opportunity to change but for her it’ll never happen maybe because of comfort or fear but in line 10 she wrote that they will “forever
