(2&4). With Vincent's mental illness he was able to go back to painting, where he had created his famous painting, "Starry Night" (which is my favorite). When I saw this quote, Look, I have had another dream' he said, 'I thought I saw the sun, the moon and eleven stars, bowing to me (Genesis 37:9), Van Gogh had painted his Starry Night painting in the hospital (1). He used his memory instead of the outdoors. An artist that can do that is absolutely talented.…

In order to truly understand a piece of art work, one must be able to identify the emotional state in which each one lies. In both “La Sieste” (Millet, Jean Francoise, and “La Sieste”) and “Siesta” (Van Gogh, Vincent, and “Siesta”) illustrate an assumed couple resting after a long day’s work, however the emotional tones depicted by the artists are distinctly different. Millet’s painting “La Sieste” seems to display a more distressed or uneasy feeling whereas Van Goughs piece “Siesta” appears to be a more pleasant slumber. Millet’s use of colors and line work undeniably portrays a harsher and more realistic view of how an endless day of work truly ends. Millet’s line work is extremely clean cut towards the center of the paining having said that,…

To whoever decides to read this, These poems I’ve written weren’t written with any particular aim other than to write. To many, this may seem absurd or even erroneous, but that’s the truth behind each poem I’m submitting, they’re spontaneous without any exact aim other than to dispose of an emotion or answer a question resulting from my musings. These are by no means a written “Starry Night” or a mosaic from ancient Greece but each is more of a basic sketch for the reader to find their own answers to questions they find themselves having or to set an example for a reader’s thoughts and actions. The Bernadette Mayer Experiment poems I made, “Cliché” and “How’d you get that scar?” are just the result of asking a question and peeling it into pieces until I can answer it.…

The Art of the Moon exhibition explores the use of the Moon in several works of art, of different mediums, throughout different historical periods from 1490 until 1926.…

While Anne Sexton and Robert Fagles were both inspired by the Van Gogh painting The Starry Night, they execute their ideas into two similar yet very different poems. Primarily, despite the fact that both poems are named after the same painting, the subject, their experiences, and the speaker of each poem are different. Additionally, both poets stimulate the reader’s senses through different images to evoke a similar gloomy atmosphere and convey the theme of death and madness. Thus, Sexton and Fagles employ the use of distinct subjects, speakers, and rich imagery to establish theme, tone and atmosphere.…
