The statue, a hollow-cast bronze, is fully frontal with a ridged and stiff posture (Ridgway 1967: 46). The left foot is taking a step forward, but both feet are firmly planted on the ground. The chest is square and bulky, yet the features, such as the abdominal muscles and the pectoral muscles are barely defined because of a lack of modeling with the “omission of digitations or ribs” (Ridgway 1967: 50). The statue is in the nude, like archaic kouros are. The face is angular with high copper brows and copper lips that are demonstrating the prominent archaic smile.…
Despite only a portion of the work remaining, it is evident that Apollo or Dionysus was depicted with a lean body type as evidenced by the slimness of the figure, coupled with its flat stomach. There is the presence of v-shaped lines at the intersection of the abdomen and the beginning of the thigh, marking a clear division of the torso and pelvis. The appearance of v-shaped lines is present whenever a man has low body fat and muscular definition, and those of the sculpture are deeply accentuated. There is an athletic appearance to the torso; however, its athleticism is depicted as toned as opposed to bulky. For instance, while there is some muscular definition in the figure’s abdomen, there is not a noticeable prominence of the abdominal region.…
This Boy’s Life is a memoir written by Tobias Wolff. It describes his childhood, like how he changed his name to Jack. When Jack was young he often changed households until they finally ended up with Dwight. This might have an effect on his morality, or at least his morality as a child. Throughout the novel Jack acts like an egoist as his actions are done to benefit himself in some way.…
The sculpture is painted in black, and it is created by using many different geometric shapes for example rectangles, squares and triangles as well as the use of different types of lines such as horizontal, vertical and wavy lines. Looking at this art work directly gives an illusion as if the object is 2d as well as offering a smooth texture due to the paint applied on the objects and evenly distributed spacing between the objects. The emphasis in artwork is located in the left side of the sculpture by using more objects compared to the right side of the sculpture. The sculpture is well balanced with exterior cubic…
Daniel Webster once famously said, “The world is governed more by appearance than realities”. Nothing exemplifies Webster’s statement better than Tobias Wolff’s memoir This Boy’s Life. In the memoir, Wolff uses myriad techniques to create an unsparing self-portrait that shatters the audience’s image of childhood and highlights the difference between the reality of his childhood and the falsified image of it that he constructed at the time. He uses this to achieve his purpose of demonstrating how appearance can have more weight to an outcome than reality.…
Chapter 2 Within the context of Whitmire’s Chapter 2, The Reason for the Boy Troubles: Faltering Literacy Skills, he explains the newly developed standards in current society have ultimately diminished the value of unexperienced or uneducated male individuals. This scenario has based upon the lower academic maturity rate for males for which they have been evidently suppressed by the ideologies of female superior academic intelligence. Because of this, fewer male individuals are unable to occupy jobs because of their inability to attend college and receive a degree. Whitmire took initiative to understand this unleveled gender gap within businesses such as Enterprise. When discussing the important of a college degree with the top recruiter for…
The size of this sculpture is medium size compared to the other sculptures that surround it. In addition, the material surface is very alluring as well as rough. Through observation one can see the body hunched over which causes the male breast to look feminine. The folds under…
Exploring the Personal Response within the book “A Child Called “It” and The Lost boy”, Dave Pelzer has connected certain quotes in this book that relates to me. A quote that resonates within me as a person is on page 78 in quote, “I wanted The Bitch to know I didn’t care anymore. As my attitude began to change, I became more and more rebellious.” After being hurt, kicked down, treated like nothing from someone deeply all the time a person will automatically change. Once in my life, there was this special person, who I don’t call mine anymore now.…
The Kritios Boy has a more relaxed and comfortable stance, whereas Archaic sculptures were known to be more rigid and severe. The most important feature is the pose of the Kritios Boy. The artist, believed to be Krito, seemed to have a full appreciation of the human body at rest. This is seen by the contrapposto or counterpose, which shows a shift in weight. The contrapposto is reflected by the way the statue is seen resting his weight on one leg, so…
The marble statue stands tall at six feet eleven inches capturing idealistic human proportions. This sculpture is considered a cannon which is a set of rules or measures for an idea which in this case refers to the human body. The Spear Bearer shows the idealization for the human body by showing balance and proportion of man’s limbs and muscles and also smooth and soft life like texture of the hair and face. The cannon was used as an ideal system of different lengths and ratios of the human body to show what the ideal man looked like in Greek culture. Every aspect of this statue shows idealism and realism even down to the pose of the sculpture and the feet and how they are showing movement.…
In search for one’s true self, the adversities that are faced are all dependent on the environment in which the person surrounds himself or herself with. Tobias Wolff demonstrates the struggle of finding a true identity when consumed by such harsh surroundings in his bildungsroman style memoir ‘ This Boy’s Life”. Despite each personas dreams of transformation, the memoir depicts each character’s struggles to find their identity given the patriarchal society in which they are exposed to; where men are expected to be masculine and women endeavor to survive against the stereotypes of their gender. Whilst children rebel as a way of finding there personalities.…

The sculpture shows how the story unfolds in a realistic but idealistic tone. It contains a wide variety of details from the great saphenous veins in the inner thigh of Laocoön to facial expressions that leave onlookers gaping. Almost every single muscle in the body of Laocoön is perfectly tone, with huge triceps and biceps and a well-built torso. Everything is anatomically correct.…
