A thorough research on these three social issues in the play and in today’s society reveals that our society has made little progress, and the issues are still relevant today.
Firstly, the play has discussions which addresses the issue of racial discrimination. Racial discrimination in the play was demonstrated in the Riot when Wendle reflected on her past saying, “I had enough trouble with fucking white kids beating the shit out of me all through high school, I don’t need to worry about some fucking dumb nigger with the fucking Uzi ripping apart my living room” (Moodie, Act 3, 71). Wendle explains that she was attending high school, she physically abuse by white kids, basically, same as saying physically discriminated because she was black. Racism in today’s society still continues. This is proven by Louise Brown’s recent article on, black youth racism, which was published in the Toronto Star on the eleventh of May, two thousand and fifteen. Police brutality has gotten a lot worst compared to before, in the 20th century, resulting in a number innocent, unarmed teens getting shot and killed by police officers. Many homosexual lives are vulnerable in today’s society due to the fact that most crimes are results of homosexual discrimination. With a thorough analysis on the social issues that was discussed in the Riot and how society have dealt with those issues, it is clearly shown that the issues raised in Riot are still relevant today because society has made little significant progress toward addressing them. Today’s society, severely struggles to solve most of the social issues that are faced and that is only three of them. There many more social and political issues that needs to get taken care of, like poverty, drug wars, natural disasters and global warming, animal extension, pollution, and many more. When will society open there eyes and solve these basic issues to move on to the catastrophic
