Throughout this book we will spend snippets of time leaning on the plump and wise cheeks of tales told long ago. These tales carry morals and lessons that demonstrate the meaning of the various chapters and they show that the wisdom contained in these pages can be recognized in fairy tales, history itself and also in the modern world. They are timeless, relevant and take us to places never visited before. Lean in close, lend a listening heart and go where the forests and rivers take your soul so that your spirit may be open to seeing beyond the imagined limitations that are right in front of your eyes. He asked to be allowed to drive the carriage. The master of the house protested and said, “You have to cut the grass. You had better stay behind.” “But I must drive the carriage today,” Tertius said, “the grass can wait. I don’t care what happens, but I insist that I go with the bride.” He refused to listen to anyone and, finally, the master, surprised at Tertius' stubbornness, allowed him to drive the carriage to the groom’s home. On the way the young bride came to an open field and there by the roadside were many beautiful red berries. They looked delicious and ripe for eating. “Wait Tertius!” she called out, “stop the carriage and pick me some of those berries.” But Tertius would not stop. In fact, he purposely hurried the horse along and said, “Oh, those berries can be found anywhere. Please be patient, I will pick some for you later.” And he made the horse move faster. I have them stashed inside boxes, computers and files, on my phone and in drawers. Because of the tale above I always leave the drawers open a little, the computer on and the boxes unlatched so that they may spill out and show themselves to all who wish to know them. For the sake of self-preservation I shall share them throughout the Scarlet Code to make the journey of self-discovery all the more fabulous and fascinating. They also have a way of making the heavy stuff lighter. Stories are our friends and our teachers and they make for wonderful dinner table entertainment too.
