One must be able to accept the fact that they are imperfect, but to do that one has to go over their sins and make the distinction between right and wrong. Throughout his life Augustine, as others do as well, struggled to find this distinction. He committed countless sins, but through Confessions he made the transition from sinner to worshipper. However, it begs the question, why? Before he started realizing his sins, Augustine was content with his life. Yet, he knew something was missing, which is why he made the change. He knew deep down that he was committing sin and God showed him the light. He understood that he would always be imperfect in the eyes of God, but with his help Augustine knew he could get back on track. From early on everyone becomes a sinner even if one doesn’t realize it. Augustine writes about a contrast, when a child is first born, they are at peace because the relationship between parents, especially the mother, and child is a perfect give and take. Augustine states, “But neither my mother nor my nurse filled their breasts of their own accord, for it was you who used them, as your law prescribes, to give me infant’s food and a share of the riches which you distribute even among the very humblest of all created things. It was also by your gift that I did not wish for more than you gave…” However, this harmonious relationship soon ends and the child start sinning. Without God’s help children run rampart and start causing destruction. Allowing children to sin in the first place, without giving them the proper foundation is the start of as to why we live imperfect lives. Humans feel the need to cause such horror in their wake. God’s word is important to listen to and teach future generations because it gives you a sense of structure and love that you may no longer receive once you enter into the world. Even though all humans are cursed with the fate to be imperfect does not mean that there is not a way to change it.
