American Dream Immigration

The essence of the American dream is the understanding that we are here on this earth and in this land for a higher purpose. The "American dream" is different for every person. To some it means financial success, to others it means freedom of expression. It’s a complex concept providing immigrants with the hope of better life. The U.S. government provides the environment and resources for everyone to pursue their dreams. The American Dream is define as “life should be better and richer and fuller for everyone, with opportunity for each according to ability or achievement” by James Turslow Adams could not have said it better. The first thing they look for when they have crossed the border is a job. Hispanics do not care what type of work it is as long as they getting paid they are satisfied. There are some cases where the money is not enough and the women have to go out and find a job to help out her husband. When it comes down for a woman to work they have less opportunity because of their gender. If they do find a job these woman are most likely to get paid very poorly or even face sexually harassment. Sarah M. Block wrote a journal about “Female farmworkers in the United States “talks about women who are immigrants and came to the United Stated for a better life. Most of them are single mothers and work in the field picking up lettuce. Many of these women faced discrimination and were abuse by their own mangers. For example Angela “a single mother who has worked cutting and packing lettuce for over a decade, first came to the United States seeking a better life” (Block). Angela works very long hours and not only that she has been verbally harassed by her supervisors. Block explains that Angela did not do anything against her supervisor because he threatened her on a daily basis and he reminded her that he was the one who control the workplace. Women keep their silence about being abuse because they want to be promoted and earn a higher salary. One study noted that “immigrant women, generally, are more likely to experience sexual harassment and employment discrimination than are immigrant men” (Block) .Women are consider to be vulnerable in the workplace and is not fair that they need to keep this harassment as a secret.
