Abraham Lincoln was a american statesman and lawyer who eventually served as the 16th president of the United States from march 1861 until his dreaded assassination in April 1865. Abraham was born on February 12, 1809, Hodgenville, KY, he had two siblings a sister Sarah Lincoln Grigsby and a brother Thomas Lincoln Jr. and eventually had a second brother but he died at birth. He also preserved the Union during the Civil War and brought about the emancipation of slaves. Lincoln was known as a real hero due to him pushing the Union through the Civil War and ending slavery with the “Emancipation Proclamation”. The person that killed him in the time when his country needed him the most was John Wilkes Booth, he was theorized as drunk when he killed Lincoln but two weeks later Federal troops backed him in a corner of a barn and shot him in the neck, he died 2 hours later. …show more content…
Lincoln had a spouse which was Mary Todd Lincoln who was the first lady of the U.S. Her and Lincoln had two kids who were, Robert Todd Lincoln and Tad Lincoln. One fun fact about Lincoln is he was a wrestler and he only lost about one out of the three hundred matches he participated in. Abraham never drank, smoke chew he was a simple man with good taste and never drank in the white house. One of Abraham Lincoln's most known speeches was the Gettysburg address on November 19, 1863. The speech was said at one of the bloodiest battlefields of the Civil War the national cemetery of Gettysburg in pennsylvania. Lincoln also evoked the Declaration of Independence saying that it was up to the living ensure that the “government of the people,by the people, for the people, shall not perish from this Earth.” Abraham was also a part of the whigs he used his term in office to speak out on the Mexican and American war.
