Within the local hospital, continual complaints of non-comprehensive and inadequate end-of-shift reports stands out as a chief concern. With the concern of inadequate handovers, the concern of poor communication among nurses in the medical-surgical department and a lack of teamwork also are noted. A voiced concern among nurses about the amount of errors rooted in poor communication within the facility also sparks interest into a change to improve communication processes. In the current healthcare setting that this writer feels would be beneficial for all involved to create a standardized form for bedside reporting. With that being said, the writer is a float nurse at the hospital and works in each department. There is no standardization as to how bedside report is given and each unit different with several viewpoints as to what is relevant or irrelevant.
