In this quotation, it has been demonstrated that god offers mercy to people by giving them the hope for living the future. In The Crucible, Proctor also depends on pathos when it fits to him. For instance, when he talks about whether is not suitable for the church in Paris, he asks, "Can you speak one minute without we land in Hell again? I am sick of Hell!” (Arthur Miller, 143) He seems to think that the minister's service is suppose to be more than just a intimidation or a complaint; Proctor actually wants the church to be able to help him feel better inside his heart, instead of beating himself down. The reason is that sometimes she has been taken a good care by them, in other time she is deprived of food or subjected with certain violent treatment. She says "Sometimes I met with favor, and sometimes with nothing but frowns.” (Mary Rowlandson, 122). Mary’s statement shows she is not surprised by neither goodwill or violence, it proves that her understanding of the prisoner is more complicated, which appeals to logos. In The Crucible, John Promert performs his thoughts based on the logic reason when he deals with the superstitious and rumored beliefs from the sick girl.
