Fashion, the popular trend in styles of clothing, can be observed through out human history. From the fur hides of the Neolithic, to the Victorian dresses of 19th century, and to the “standard” clothing that the society perceives of today, fashion is ubiquitous. Fashion – especially women’s fashion – however, stands beyond its practicality and ornamentation to make and to mark the social, cultural, and psychological atmosphere of the era. In this paper, one seeks to examine the rise of trousers in women’s fashion during the 1920s, as it could be signifying women’s increasing resistance against paternalistic cultures that are deep-rooted in the society. Such hypothesis will be investigated by looking at the initial rise of trousers following World War I, the adoption of trousers in sportswear, and the multiple political messages this item of clothing inherited.…
First, the women’s apparel of the 1920’s became more skimpy and revealing than before. In the 1920’s the fashionable length of the skirts women wore were slightly above the knee and the fabric was very fine and thin. The flappers came to be the dress to wear to a party instead of an elegant gown.…
How To: 1920s Fashion and Style The 20`s were a roaring time in history, and one of the large components of it was the fashion and style. This was an important time for women especially, because they learned how to be different than all the women before their time. The 19th Amendment gave women the freedom to do many things they had never been able to do before, and this reflected in how they choose to dress. They took many risk in what they wore, for their time.…

Thesis: 1932 was a year with Presidential politics, a kidnapping, economical loans, scientific discoveries, the disappearance of 2 aviators, a world championship, olympic sports, higher revenues, costs of basic things were cheaper. She stated that, “1920 's Fashion represented modernism and women who were determined to free themselves of the shackles of the Victorian era.” Though it may not be apparent, the way one dresses is often a direct reflection of their social identity. By liberating themselves in order to dress how they wanted, women unlocked self confidence that had been repressed inside…
Women’s hairstyles also moved towards sleek and modern, many cut their hair short in a style that was known as “the bob”. A big style icon in the 20s was the Flapper, a trendy women who wore short loose dresses with a straight silhouette, close fitting hats, and bobbed hair styles. Women grew bolder and social normalities changed for them. They wore more makeup, had shorter hair and shorter dresses, it was acceptable to see them smoking or drinking in public, dancing involved more body contact than ever, and they had a greater participation in the work force. Men's clothing changed too and suits became simpler, with just slim, un-padded jackets over the trousers.…
The transition of women’s fashion from a conservative approach into much more sexualized, masculine, and progressive style is a manifestation of key 1920’s themes: materialism as a result of economic prosperity, a rise in the importance of advertising, and feminism. The seductive and masculine fashion and beauty statements of the 1920s sharply contrasted fashion and beauty standards of the 1900’s in that women allowed themselves to transform into multi-dimensional beings beyond the image of the innocent, delicate female that was prevalent in the 1900s. Prior to the Roaring Twenties, female fashion often depicted women as pure, harmless beings. Wearing tight corsets emphasizing a tiny waist and long, bustling skirts, their fashionable outfits were not only extremely conservative (CITE), but also physically restricting; anything other than housework was hard to do. Furthermore, makeup was scarcely applied; women strived for a subtle look, opting to pinch their cheeks instead of wearing…
Women’s fashion dramatically, and permanently transformed during and around the years of World War I. As the war went on, dresses shifted from long, thin skirts to loose pants, to shorter dresses, consequently forming into the popular flapper style of the 1920s. This shift is largely…
Freedoms such as being able to vote, express them-selves, and gain a sense of respect from others. Not only was fashion a piece of material back in the 1920’s, but also a form of movement. With the turn of the decade and fashion, women were able to speak for them-selves whether their voices were seen or heard as negative or positive. The Flapper image became negative for the elders but the image allowed young women to be able to grow out of that stage into mature women. Wanting to move out due to their parent’s constant lectures on how to live their lives caused the women to rebel and move out of their homes resulting in search of jobs to be able to support them-selves financially.…
First, society was changing and fashion changed along with it proving,“1920s fashion was the perfect blend between style and function. Beautiful clothes that allowed women to move” (1920s Fashion: Style in The Jazz Age). Hemlines on 1920s dresses were rising quickly, one year mid-calf, the next year below the knee. No longer were women willing to dress in the old customs of the Victorian era like corsets. In addition, flappers played a major role in fashion during this time being that, ”1920s flapper fashions were a new-found byproduct of a changing world, with many social elements merging together all at once in the fashion and the flapper culture itself” (1920s Flapper: Brash & Beautiful).…

In the 1920s, men dressed very sophisticated. The goal of dressing so elegantly was to become more attractive. In their workplace or in a business, they would dress in suits. The suits were tailored to have narrow hips which made them look skinnier than what they really were.…
As with any conflict, the postwar world can be drastically different to the world that existed during the war. The fashion trends that existed during the war were typically aimed at practicality in the workplace. Furthermore, the rationing during the war led to a decline in fabrics and clothing availability, so the fashion industry was not significant during this time. Gradually, as World War II ended, the trends begin to be less practical and focused more on overall appearance. Women’s clothing in particular began to be burdened with excess fabric, collars, petticoats, pleats, gatherings, and other fabrics.…
Hats, vests, and ties became less popular, and men were now intermingling formal and informal wear. The sports coat, unlike formal wear, could be worn with different matching trousers. This allowed for more flexibility and emphasized comfortability. World War II significantly impacted men’s fashion which ultimately led to the development of the sports jacket. This sports jacket represents the rationing efforts of World War II.…
Old World Glam I broke down while reading your comment and I immediately prayed for you since I could relate to the flashback experience though I'm single. After praying for you this is the word I received for you: first, thank God that you are no longer in that situation (it is in the past/you're a new creation); second, rebuke the devil for replaying those images to condemn you (there is now no condemnation for those in Christ (Rom 8:1)); next, thank God for your husband and ask God to heal every wounds/brokenness/unforgiveness; then, thank God for cleansing you and giving you the grace to move on; pray for those in similar situation, and lastly, pray for the salvation of your ex. Pray these points when experiencing a flashback and at odd…
