In Suzanne Collins’ exciting novel The Hunger Games, the author depicts the struggle of two tributes from District 12 and their personal development as well as how they survive in the harsh wilderness of the arena. In the beginning of the Hunger Games the story takes place in District 12, which is a part of the nation of Panem. Panem was originally home of 13 Districts but the government took control and destroyed the 13th because the people tried to rebel. As a punishment for what they did each district would have to send 2 tributes each, a girl and a boy, to compete and fight to the death in the annual games. Katniss Everdeen was almost forced to join the games when her little sister was picked at the age of 12, Katniss could not let her sister go since she had been providing for her and her mother since their father died. She would often venture out to the woods with her best friend,Gale, where they would hunt to put food on their family's tables.
