war communism
name given to the economic system that existed in russia from 1918-21. introduced b y Lenin to combat the economic problems brough on by the civil war in russia. failed.
New Economic Policy(NEP)
introduced to replace the failed policy of war communism. nep brought some form of economic sense back to russia's economy.
comintern
the communist international. an international communist organization initiated in moscow 1919. established as a way for the soviet union to "export revolution abroad" in its policy of overthrow legitimate regimes, ti aid communist parties for espionage.
nationalization
to bring under the ownership or control of a nation.
constituent assembly 1918
popularly elected body that convened in 1918 in petrograd to write a constitution and form a gov for russia. dissolved by the bolshevik gov.
cheka
officially called the all russian extraordinary commission for struggle against counter revolution, sabotage and speculation. originally a forced designed to facilitate bolshevik control by stopping looting.secret police of russia.
treaty of brest-litovsk
brought about the end of the war between russia and germany in 1918.
kronstadt rebellion of 1921
Kronstadt is a naval base on Kotlin Island in the Gulf of Finland, about 18 miles west of St Petersburg/Petrograd. The sailors there were young and literate. The March Revolution of 1917 there had been one of the bloodiest uprisings in Russia, with the sailors massacring hundreds of their officers.
