I believe that practice makes perfect. During post clinical conference, I add my input when questions are asked. Participation and adding input is a great way for me to learn. When my resident doesn’t need any assistance, I use initiative to seek learning opportunities by answering call lights, asking my peers if they need assistance, as well as offering help to the staff. To be able to gain more experience, I need to be exposed to different residents and learning opportunities therefore, I am not afraid to offer assistance. One situation in particular was I answered a call light and gained the experience of assisting a resident from the toilet to her wheelchair. This was beneficial as in the nursing career, I may have to assist a patient that I am unfamiliar with; being able to safely help and individual is essential. I have been able to successfully implement the student nurse role with the responsibility and accountability. For example, I am always on time, in clinical attire, and prepared for the day. Being professional is important because in the nursing career, one is expected to be prompts, prepare, and ready to
