I will bring extensive experience in working with developmentally disabled individuals and their families into therapy sessions. Families that include an individual with developmental disabilities often have life altering changes to make ahead of them, or have in the past, in order to provide the best quality of life for the particular individual. This means I often verbally or physically direct them through experiences. I will have to be aware of my tendency to directly assist a client in order to accomplish a task for an individual and instead guide them to accomplishing the tasks themselves. I predict this will be one of my biggest learning curves in my clinical therapy skills. I will have to actively identify moments where I will want to step in for a client and learn to guide them instead to self-discovery. Self-discovery for these clients will allow them to exercise skills in their own personal growth and will have a larger impact on their lives if they feel as if they have accomplished it
