This dark room represents the life of a women is being trapped in a cage. The emotional feelings a woman is life a hard stone. It is compulsory for them to adapt with all the hurts caused their husbands. In the novel, Savitri locked herself in the dark room when her husband spoils her happiness on a religious day and she was allowed to listen to all the scolding from her husband, not allowing her to explain the situation. It is also believed that a woman should not express her feelings and raise a little voice about her dissatisfaction to her husband when he scolds her with some exaggerated understanding Since she is not allowed to express her feelings, the maximum thing that a typical Indian woman can do is only to isolate herself and back to normal condition when she had already console herself. This place is a fictionous town in R.K. Narayan’s works. In reality, Malgudi is at Vittalapuram, a very peaceful place which has good road connection, accomplish everyone daily need, has public transports, educational institutions, recreational centers, hotels, hospitals, banks, and temples, besides being a useful place of preserve and restore natural resources. This village of Malgudi has its people from middle class families, which in the story, Savitri’s family depicts the middle class family and in the peaceful town, women are still being judged my men and face many complexities in their lives. Although during 20th century was leading towards modernity, still there were typical thinking people in this town whom believe women as the inferior and oppression was still happening. The homes were very harmony and homely in this town, could be men want women to be responsible to care for home and husband
