“Wolves live in packs the packs can be 8 to 12 or even as many as 30” (American expedition). The packs go from the highest to the lowest ranking one. Such as alphas male and female, beta which is 2nd rank, then mid-rank, then to the very lowest the omega wolf. Having this type of order leads to fewer fights within the pack because every wolf knows their own position. Though, there are occasions the male alpha will be challenged by another male in the pack. The alpha female is the only one that is allowed to have pups the others help raise and protect the pups are one of their own. During this time “The female alpha wolf makes a den and stays with her cubs for several weeks, while the other wolves from the pack bring her food” (American Expedition). “Frankly any wolf in the pack can become an alpha if the male or female alpha is injured or killed the next in line will take its place which will be the beta wolf” (Harvard pg 7). “Sometimes a newcomer will take the place of the alpha that has died or is weak” (Harvard pg 8). Personally the pack order is very interesting to me because of how it works they are a family and no wolves get left behind they take care of each other and respect one another as well. “The alphas in the pack decide where to hunt and what to hunt other wolves will follow their lead” (Dutcher). “When it comes to eating with the order the apha tends to kill …show more content…
“The wolf's appearance is fierce”(American expedition). Another thing about their appearance is it has a “narrow chest which is useful in snowy conditions, they can push through the snow like a plow” (Dutcher). “The coat of a gray wolf is made up of white, red, brown, and black colored hairs” (Dutcher). They also have a thick layer of hair under the coats that acts like an insulation to them. Some wolves are pure gray, pure black or pure white. They have a wonderful “set of teeth such as 42 teeth and 12 small incisors” (Dutcher). At the front of the mouth. A wolf can have very mangled looking hair or nice looking hair it all depends on age, and rank of the wolf how they are treated in the pack. They “have a small dewclaw on their leg as a dog would the claws and dewclaw are used to grip food and help with holding them”(Morgan pg 7). Most wolves have very beautiful yellow eyes, which have also captivated me and many others. Though there are some wolves from my knowledge that very well have many different looks and personalities. Every single one in the pack that is also why if you ever see a wolf pack there might be some wolves that are lower to the ground than others, especially around the alphas because they feel they need to be that low as an omega. The omega always feels “The need to flip over onto their back, whimpering in surrender when the other wolves check them back into place”
