On 7/16/2015, at 1933 hours, I was on duty, in uniform, and driving a marked police vehicle (0913). I was dispatched to the Clallam County Public Library (2210 S Peabody Street - which is in the city limits of Port Angeles, Clallam County, Washington State) on report of a male outside that was refusing to leave. The reporting party did not see the male consuming alcoholic beverage, but reported that he smelled as though he had consumed alcoholic beverage. I arrived in the area at 1935 hours. The male had left the area in the blue "olds" with an elderly female the reporting party believed was his mother, and was driving westbound towards Orcas Ave., and turned right on Chase Street.…
Psychology Lab Research Question: Why do older adults show a decrease on postural control? Hypothesis: Older adults with decreased knee or ankle threshold joint position sensation would show decreased postural control. • Threshold joint position is a test of sensory sensitivity used to quantify each subject’s proprioceptive abilities Methods: • 22 women and men, 70 yoa or older • all subjects had threshold joint position testing at ankle (plantar and dorsiflexion) and knee joints (flexion and extension) - Subjects were told to press a stop button the moment they detected movement in the joint - performance was measured in degree of joint rotation that occurred prior to their sensing movement - This data was used to categorize subjects…
For example, shod running is associated with an increased peak torque at each of the three lower extremity joints when compared to minimal or barefoot running. The most prominent increases occur at the hip and knee joints. More importantly, disproportionately large increases in the hip internal rotation torque and in the knee flexion and knee varus torques. An increase in the three joints showed weak correlations with increase stride length observed in shod runners, but an increase in the external knee varus torque was found to significantly correlate with the increase in stride length. This was found to only explain 8% of the variance in the increase while shod running (Kerrigan, Franz, Keenan, Dicharry, Della Croce, & Wilder, 2009).…
Discussion Board #6 – Case Study of Maria Diaz – Alexandra Dais – November 20, 2017 1. Identify the geriatric syndromes (tip: there are many) that Maria is experiencing. Provide assessment findings that support your response. Bladder Control Problems – Urinary incontinence is a common problem in our elderly generations. Urinary incontinence can lead to problems like falls, depression from embarrassment and isolation from not wanting to venture out in public (National Institutes of Health, 2017).…

In addition, these injured athletes become eager to rejoin there selected sport. Depending on pacific injury certain motions are significant for healing process. If failed to utilize specific motions healing time may be extended. In addition, working with athletes introduces the importance of stability. Considering, center…
The purpose of the study was to examine the effectiveness of ankle stability between taping and bracing while preventing reoccurring ankle sprains in female athletes. The study favored ankle bracing, however, the hypothesis is not clearly stated. The research targeted the best prophylactic intervention that prevented overstretching of the ankle ligaments. The key terms were listed but was not defined.…
Falls among the elderly people within our society are becoming more and more common, “ with at least one in three people aged over 65 years falling each year”(Spink). Reasons older people are having more incidents is that they are losing their balance easier, their choice of footwear is inappropriate, or that they are having increased foot problems. Seniors seeing a podiatrist can have reduced foot pain, improved balance, and a reduced number of falls (Spink). A couple of the ways a podiatrist can help is by examining the patients footwear and their feet, so they can prescribe therapy to help them strengthen their feet and ankle or find any underlying issues. Most fall prevention protocols call for a podiatrist (Spink).…
This design is appropriate for the study conducted and research question. There was no control group in this study. The intervention group received 6 weeks of home-exercise utilizing the Wii with treatment beginning with patient’s first home-visit from a healthcare team member. Patient’s began with warm-up exercises and then performed walking and balance exercises for 5 minutes each day for the first 5 days of the first week of the intervention. At the end of each week, patient’s perceived self-efficacy was measured by the nurse.…
In this, 15 athletes jumped and were observed and measured the angles of their legs by replaying film taken of them doing so (Hopper, McNair, Elliott 1999). While bracing and taping significantly decreases the amount of ankle injuries, it also increases the amount of knee injuries because of a lack of range of motion that the athlete is used to having in the ankle. From the results of their tests, they found that when wearing an ankle brace, or tape makes no difference, but to instead use personal preference (Hopper, McNair, Elliott…
Activities in which the body is subjected to body blows, hard hits, and falls create rotational stress when the knee is in various degrees of flexion and the foot is planted (Lewis, S. M., 2011). However, those whose work requires squatting or kneeling are also at risk, along with older clients. They run the risk of degenerative tears, which may not occur right away but can be seen over…
Ideokinesis, a practice that provides physical benefits in terms of fluidity in movement, posture, and body alignment through the process of imagery and visualization, utilizes multiple techniques in order to train specific body systems such as the skeletal and nervous systems to adapt to newer and healthier neuromuscular methods. A significant mechanism used to teach the benefits of Ideokinesis is the 9 lines of movement. Reflecting on and working towards stabilizing the 9 lines of movement allows for the distribution of strength and equal balance in one’s body parts, done mainly by a prominent sense of imagining certain scenarios along with some physical movement. The 9 lines of movement consists of the first line going from the big toe to…
