Article 4: Why Should Anyone be Led by You?
Central Theme: Authors Robert Goffee and Gareth Jones reveal, towards the end of their article, that an inspirational leader is himself but with “more skill” (p.94). One has to be able to reveal weakness selectively, be a sensor, practice empathy, and dare to be different. As a leader, the person must be able to connect with those they lead but also be able to see the bigger picture of how things are working. Throughout the article, Goffee and Jones explain how in any of the four unexpected qualities a leader must use exact precision in what they say, do, and express themselves. Goffee and Jones, on page 80 and 81, argue that by selectively revealing weakness trust is created, solidarity is built, and vulnerable protection is offered, and although there is truth regarding these side effects, I believe that a leader should show n weakness but instead demonstrate their differential attributes as their humane connection. The reason for this thought is that I believe a leader should show perfection even in their imperfection because it gives a sense of security. It is best for a leader to show that they have control of everything, and if they do not they need to find a solution, and if necessary announce the problem to some along with the
