Nixon also created the Environmental Protection Agency organization in hope to address the pollution problem as well as the Department of Natural Resources where he oversaw the Clean Air and Clean Water Act. He also ended the draft in addition to making advances towards women’s rights when he signed the law requiring girl’s sports teams received the same amount of funds as the boys’ teams in 1972 (Parnass). Nixon also gave $100 million to begin the War on Cancer in hopes to find a cure and deplete the cancer death rates. As if all those achievements weren’t good enough, the “Nixon shock” managed to take $17 billion off the deficit in three years as well as granting a guaranteed income and healthcare. Nixon also promoted the 26th amendment in lowering the voting age from 21 to 18.
